creating my contents page..

Firstly, i did some research. I looked at all ready made products and chose to look at 4 different music magazine content pages.

On the majority of these examples there is a large amount of text in a small font with a large image. The image indicated how the magazine is going to be. So in the third magazine cover, the content page model looks aggressive and this makes the audience think that the information they include is quite threatening and a must see.

I then started creating my content page, i designed a mast head which includes an images of the music magazine cover, the title and the web address.

I now need to add text to show what is in each page, and some other images that would be included if  was to produce the full magazine.

I have then added some images and sectioned it off.

 I am going to transfer this document into a JPEG so that i can add text using publisher because it allows me to choose from a larger range of text.

This is how my product looks as i have started to add text.

I think it looks good with this style of text as it makes the main focus the images on the page.

I then completed my content page by added the information for what would be on each page.

I think that my content page looks like a fully published content page as it is accurate, it includes everything that is needed for a content page and looks appealing.

I then changed the size and colour of the numbers so that the page number stood out against the story line.

I think this looks better as a content page because it makes it look a little more realistic. It also allows the name of the artist and the story line to fall right and make it look present well.

The images i have chosen to use i have placed a '*' next to. The reason why i have chosen this image...

 

is because out of all the image i have taken of her i feel like image i could work around and edit my text well to go with. Even though it has a bright mark in the background i still think this image is more apropriate. I think possibly i would cut the model out and use a different background. 

music magazine cover

Today i've started creating my masthead for my music magazine..

I've found that a more smooth, curved text fits the music genre more then block text as it shows the style of music through the text.

These are the typography styles i looked and i decided i would use a total different text.

 

I chose not to use this text as i think it doesn't represent indie styled music.

Instead, I decided to use this text because it connects to the genre of music and draws attention to it.

This is the base of my music magazine, stripped to basics. I decided to use a plain, neutral colour for my back ground to make her the main attraction when you look at it. I chose to make the title a similar colour to the models t-shirt to make these my continuing colours through out making pages for my music magazine. I like how bold the title looks in comparison to the pale back ground, this makes the name of the magazine noticable.

I think it looks good and well presented because the text does't cover any if the models face. I have also made it so the main cover story is connected the cover model as this is what happens on the front of published music magazines. If i was to edit anything on this i would make the title a little darker as i wanted the main colour to tie in with the models t-shirt and the title is lighter. I think i have presented my music magaine appropiately and i feel it looks realistic. If i had to re-do the whole thing again i would take this image with both of the models shoulders in as i think it would look better if the model was central.

I then moved the text around and changed the colour of a few things so that i have a contrasting colour.

I think this version looks a lot better then before because it exaggerates the fact jade is the cover model through the text being an opposite colour to the rest. I also added subheadings to show what the stories are inside instead of having a list of bands which are included.

Audience Research

I have created a questionnaire to find out what other people expect to see on a music magazine so that i can make my magazine cover fit to other peoples expectations.

I found out that more people prefer a magazine cover with less txt and more imagery,they prefer the image to be a mid shot over a close up and they would by it is the saw they was getting something for free.

Doing this it has made it easier to know what to include on my magazine cover as i know what my target audience would want to be included.

Ideas for own production.

This section will include any sketches, notes and outline plans that i have done when on my journey to create my music magazine cover, contents page and double page spread. It will also include the band i would like to include throughout my work.

These are the sketches i produced to give myself an idea how i wanted my magazine cover, double page spread and contents page.

 

From doing these sketches it allows me to have a rough idea how how to present each section of my coursework.

                                                                                                                                                 

The band i have decided to use continuously through out my coursework is an American band called Imagine Dragons. I chose to use this band because it is one of my favourites, i have primary photography of them and i know information about this band so i thought it would be abit easier to produce a double page spread on a band i know alot about.

The image i am using for my double page spread will be this;

On this image i managed to spread the background colour out using the smudge tool on photoshop, i did this because i felt it would make the artist the main focus on the double page spread.

school magazine

I firsty analised two magazine covers to know what music magazine covers include.

By analysing these products i know know what needs to be on music magazines, what layout they should be and how to present them correctly.

I completed my school magazine.

 

 

Even though my magazine cover includes everything a magazine cover should, i think there are multiple things i could do to improve this product, for example i could change the typography to make it look more creative instead of standard. I would also adjust the image so that the face of main image is over the top of the text, this will make the image the main attraction instead of all the text.

I think this page looks empty and to spacious, to make this product look more like a magazine content page i could include more images and infomation. To improve this product i would also change my use of colour as i think it makes the product look quite childish. I would also vary my typography as the text i have used is simple.

Initial research into current music magazines.

I research music magazine covers and annotated one to expand my knowledge of this product.

 

Doing this research and being able to pick out sections which are vital on a music magazine cover i will be able to adjust my own and make it look more professional.

 

I researched contect pages throughout the music industry and annotated one to understand the product more.

 

This will help me with the layout of my content page.

 

I then researched and annoted a double page spread from a music magazine.

 

This allows me to know how to lay my double page spread out, what to include and what size to have them.
